很多朋友聽到皮拉提斯第一句話會問:和瑜伽有什麼不同呢?相同點是兩者都很強調呼吸的重要性。然而瑜伽是鼻吸鼻吐的呼吸法,皮拉提斯以鼻吸口吐的方式,誘發核心肌群工作。此外瑜伽全身性力求柔軟度及力量整合;皮拉提斯則以小強度、小範圍的肌力訓練,安全地強化肌群。
皮拉提斯會針對不同部位,安排適合的練習組合:駝背圓肩通常是背肌較無力,但會先放鬆前側胸肌才能好好訓練背部;下背痛常是前側腹肌較無力或骨盆前傾,整體經由指導老師引導適合的動作序列,延展放鬆緊繃的肌群,而後強化較無力肌群,來逐步重新建立平衡的體態和動作模式。
